STUDENT DEMONSTRATION ON JARVIS SITE
![]() Featured: Bryan Burgess, site manager addressing the pupils. Building, Development and M&E Services Group Jarvis of Harpenden has been participating in the training of young building students. A group of trainees from Moulton College, Northampton recently visited their multi-million pound housing contract currently under construction in Milton Keynes, Bucks, as part of Jarvis' ongoing policy of attracting new people into the building industry. Jarvis' site manager, Bryan Burgess, who arranged the visit with their College, gave twenty-one students a guided tour of the site. They were shown various stages of a timber-framed house construction from foundations through to second fix stage. Part of the visit also featured on health & safety issues, which now play a significant part of any Jarvis site operation, and is why they have been chosen to receive the British Safety Council's National Award for the third year running. The contract comprises the construction of 82 No. dwellings for key worker, rented, shared ownership and the socially disadvantaged sector of the housing market and is being built at Grange Farm in the city on a partnering arrangement for Midsummer Housing Association. It was felt that the practical experience gained by the pupils would give them a useful insight into the construction industry. All agreed that the day had been a great success and further visits should be arranged. |
