JARVIS RESTORES ST PAUL'S.

Jarvis Group of Harpenden is in the process of completing an exciting church restoration project at St Paul's Church, Mill Hill, London.

St Paul's was built in 1833 by the politician William Wilberforce, famous for his bill which abolished transatlantic slave trade in 1807; Wilberforce retired to the Mill Hill area and constructed St Paul's for the local community. He died in 1833 shortly before the church's completion.

The crypt which has remained unused for 173 years is being excavated and waterproofed and once completed will provide the church with a much needed community facility. Additionally, the interior of the church is being remodelled to increase the capacity and improve it's flexibility of use. Jarvis skilled craftsmen have been employed due to the specialist nature of the work.

The conversion commenced in September 2006 and works are due to be completed late 2007, at the end of the bicentenary year in which the church has celebrated William Wilberforce's bill and achievements. The church will be creating a permanent exhibition area to William Wilberforce as part of the remodelling project.

Steve Cook, Managing Director of Jarvis Contracting, said of the project: 'We are pleased to have been involved in this unique restoration. The conversion will much improve the facilities at St Paul's and will benefit the parishioners and local community.'

Jarvis has extensive experience of working within the ecclesiastical sector and has successfully completed building projects for partners throughout the South-East.
