JARVIS RECEIVES ROYAL APPROVAL.

HRH The Duke of Kent has officially opened St Francis Hospice in Berkhamsted, Herts and a major extension at Dame Alice Owen’s School, Potters Bar. Both were built by Jarvis Contracting Limited of Harpenden.

The Duke of Kent first visited the new £5.2m Hospice where he was presented to members of staff and the Jarvis construction team.

Work commenced on the D&B project in January 2004 and was completed in December 2006. It transformed a land-fill site into a development which houses 14 in-patient bedrooms along with outpatient facilities and administration areas. The hospice has recently received two awards from the Chiltern Conservation Board for building and landscape design. The development has been sympathetically planned to suit the rural setting and includes extensive landscaping in a woodland area.

The Royal party then moved on to Dame Alice Owen’s school, where they had lunch before holding the official opening ceremony.

Jarvis completed work on the school in November. This major contract worth £4.2 million commenced in September 2006 and comprises the design and construction of a new MAT Block (maths, art and technology), replacing the old technology building. The development has provided the school with up-to-date facilities in a modern environment to enable 21st century teaching and learning.
