Profile
Ernest Charles Jarvis founded the Jarvis Group of Harpenden in 1905. Today, the one-man business he started is still privately-owned and Harpenden based. As a regional organisation we aim to provide all those property related services required by private individuals and the business community. Jarvis has become synonymous with building at its best and with a reputation of being 'More than a Builder'. It is proud to maintain the traditions of training and craftsmanship, and continuity of employment sadly lacking in much of the construction industry.
Structure
We are a multi-disciplined organisation with five main divisions:
- Jarvis Contracting Limited
- Jarvis M & E Services Limited
- Jarvis Homes Limited
- Jarvis Commercial Limited
- Jarvis Maintenance
The Group's activities include general contracting, mechanical and electrical services, property maintenance, housing for sale and commercial development.
Turnover in 2005, approximately £50 million.
Community
The Jarvis Group, together with The Jarvis Harpenden Charitable Trust, supports a number of good causes. These include:
- Harpenden in Bloom
- Harpenden Rotary Club
- The annual Harpenden Carnival
- Donations to locally based charities and good causes
- Donations in support of individuals
- The Jarvis Trust
Recent donations to established charities include Local Hospices and Community Meeting Point.
At a national level, Action on Addiction and the building industry's charity The Lighthouse Club are regularly supported. The Lighthouse Club's objective is to give financial help to the victims of accidents and illness within the construction industry.
History
A Family Company and it's Building Company
In 1905 England had just completed the Victorian era and was midway through the ten or so years of Edwardian times. The Jarvis family were typical of the generation. Hard working, men of substance, men of property and from this background the founder of Jarvis - E C (Ernest Charles) - arrived in Harpenden 1905 to start his own business. Throughout the past century, the company has maintained its connection with the Jarvis family.
In 2005 Jarvis published a complete history of the company in celebration of the centenary of its foundation.
Policies
Jarvis has a range of Group policies which deal with the whole sphere of our operations. These Policies include:
- Environment
- Health & Safety
- Equality
- Equality & Diversity
- Sustainability
- Customer Charter
